Okay so I took a break from the blog for a little while but was focusing on my short stories. In attempt to recover from writers blog I had a few people read my short story called Skarlet. I received a lot of great comments and how I should turn it into a book, but also I had a few people tell me to try to see the reaction of readers on my blog. So, please leave a comment after reading the first chapter and tell me what you think and wether you would want me to work on the next chapter. Thanks and I hope you enjoy!
He sat with his spiked hair resting amongst the wall looking at the blur of memories in his mind. Among most of them he saw her image as breath taking as ever; her stunning blue eyes, a never-ending ocean, bright on her pale skin. She smiled, pink rosy lips against luminescent white teeth. Her necklace shinning bright on her neck, a broken heart with a dying rose.
“It’s a family crescent I guess you can say, I’ve worn it since I was born.” She said smiling beautifully. He touched her neck tracing down to the heart. She flinched away at the mere touch.
“It protects me.”
She walked back into his heart, hidden deep within his memories. Would he ever forget her, her sweet smell of wild roses. He looked down in awe at the beautiful sight of her eyes on his arm. Her portrait forever engraved there.
“Are you okay?” A short blond girl asked looking down at him sitting in the back. Hoping to be able to take the empty seat next to him he took his books from the chair and left.
She looked nothing like her, how could she even compare. He had to think of anything apart from the thought of her embrace. He headed to his apartment wishing to avoid the wandering eyes of any girl. He was fair looking was the least you could say and girls liked to let him know. He wandered around the corner and entered the building.
“Good afternoon Mr. James how was your day?” The old man behind the counter asked at the sight of the young man.
“Very well Mr. Stuart.” He said as he got into the elevator hitting the button for the eighth floor. “Have a nice night.”
He went into his bedroom, simple and nice, just a bed and sheets to sleep with. He put his black leather messenger bag down and went to lie on the bed looking at the intrinsic drawings on the ceiling. Sooner then later he fell into a deep haunting sleep.
“Leave before you change, again. He will find you . . .” the familiar voice whispered to him. Those bright ocean eyes tormenting him in his sleep, never again will they be as bright. The thought brought shivers. Those rose lips pale with blood flowing down her neck. He saw a man standing crouched over her blood stained body. Bared canine teeth, blood on his lips, animal crazed green hazel eyes.
His hair wet with rain and blood dripping around his face, killed spikes on his head. He snarled feeling harassed because of his presence. He bared his teeth and smiled. Going back and getting a running start into the air, landing swiftly on top of him. The creature was not yet a man, younger. As he stared deep into his eyes he saw what frightened him beyond thought, it was himself.
“Nessie!” he screamed into empty darkness. Laying in a sweat soaked bed he sat up and noticed the thick feeling of something else on his hands. He looked at the still body that lay next to him. Black thick hair flowing down her pale body. He reached to turn her over not believing the resemblance.
“Nessie?” he spoke to the dead. He turned the still body over stunned it was soaked in blood. Smeared across her face and her nude body. How could she have gotten here?
“You devil! You slaughtered my baby girl how could you!?” her mother screamed hysterically.
“I didn’t kill her!” He screamed to defend himself. He loved her, he protected her, how could she ever think he would hurt her at all.
But I did, you did. I told you not to fall in love for it would bring death. But you wouldn’t listen now would you. You fell in love and now you will kill for love. The haunting voice sounded all too familiar in his head.
“No!” He yelled, but with no use. He had already killed in innocent girl for the mere fact she looked like his love.
“I will not do this anymore!’ He screamed throwing the body to the floor. His true violence came to surface. He wrapped the girl in garbage bags put on his leather jacket and walked out the door into the night. He left as fast as lighting to lake Michigan where he dumped the weight of the body, which had been useless to him now. He jumped into sprint, shedding his human body to have perfect wolf fur. He decided to head south, far south, before anyone came to ask questions as they did when it happened to Nessie.
She looked amongst the faces of her classmates but not really looking at them. Lost in her world she could not give algebra her entire attention. Why had she moved again, for a new beginning again? She did not know anymore, all she knew is that she wanted to forget.
“Don’t think about it too much” Omar said to her mind while looking attentively at her. “If you had not moved here you would have never met me or Katie.”
Oh how she loved Kat. She was like a ten year old stuck in a teenager’s body. She had brunet thick curls flowing down her oval face with bold green and gray eyes, her eyes being the reason they called her Kat. She sat doodling on her algebra notebook while she ate cookies she had in her bag. Skarlet laughed at the sight as Kat looked up and tilted her head curious of why she had been laughing and smiled.
“You know I love you” She spoke silently into Katie’s thoughts. Kat smiled and shook her head yes and the three tried to pay attention to the remainder of class.
“You okay Skat? You’ve been thinking a lot lately,” Omar asked.
“Yeah I’m fine, just nervous about the meeting set. I am not sure I am a great leader that’s all.” She replied lying to his face. Although it had been a lot of pressure being announced queen she knew she could handle it, the thing that had her mind crazed had been her past. The pain, which her past held, was unbearable and she would shut everyone out who tried to help. Skarlet was unique, she wasn’t a shifter, she wasn’t a vampire, and she wasn’t a Wiccan; Skar was all at once. Her job was to keep order with each kind of her world and punish those who would undermine her authority. She shook her head to forget all she had on her plate momentarily.
“You know stress gives you wrinkles love.” Kat said smiling at her and running off. Kat was her right hand girl; she had been like her little sister helping her look over their world hidden from humans. She was a shifter; her favorite animal was the mountain lion. Skarlet laughed at the thought.
“Hey Skar,” Christopher said walking up to her. “We found some tracks crossing over into Austin but none that had left this morning on our perimeter run.”
“What kind?” Skarlet asked.
“Shifter definitely.” He replied.
“Go with him and pay a visit to Dallas.” She commanded. Christopher was her messenger and defender of borders and Omar was her personal protector always keeping close. He knew her like no other except for what she held of her past locked up. Both boys had shaggy hair but well built, Christopher’s was dark brown, which blended his hazel eyes. On the other hand Omar had a Mohawk running down with solid black hair bringing out his luminous blue eyes. They always looked at Omar as her brother as close to her resemblance.
“Yes m’am.” Omar replied then the two boys walked off.
“Please just leave!” Skarlet screamed into the open school patio. She had been caught in her own nightmares, she could not forget the pain as much as she wished she could. Everyone looked to see if she was okay but no one had been next to her.
“What’s going on with you? Are you in harms way?” Omar’s voice sounded soothing in her thoughts. That was the thing between them; he was her protector and could sense her emotions.
“I’m okay just day dreaming, nightmare.” She replied.
“Again?” He had been woken up many nights from her nightmares. She ignored the thought and walked down the hallway to find Katie.
“Who ever this shifter is he is leaving a blood trail Skar. Dallas said he knew nothing about it and I believe him, the shifter killed Nene.” Omar intruded her thoughts once again. Dallas was the sub leader of the shifters, he had to control his pack and report to her when needed. Nene had been his younger sister only sixteen and quite beautiful. She had black hair down her neck and gorgeous blue and hazel eyes. Dallas had always protected her and she could sense his pain and rage caused by her death.
“I need to find Kat and then I’ll be on my way.” She answered him as she ran through the corridors and found Kat as always laying on her back, feet on the wall, listening to her ipod and drawing.
“Hey silly goose, what’s up?” She said nonchalant.
“Kat we need to go, now.” Skar said with all seriousness and Katie knew when to play and when to be serious, which was why she was her right hand girl.
“’Kay,” She replied as she jumped onto her feet throwing her things into her messenger bag and began sprinting down the hall with Skar. They jumped into the air shifting into a mountain lions.
“We have a trail with fresh blood leading down to Sam’s perimeter.” Omar informed her. Sam had been the sub leader for the wiccans, or as they say witches, and he was not very nice to intruders apart from Skar’s.
“We just left the school, we are cutting through the woods. We will meet you before we get close.” She replied. Kat and her ran through the forest inhaling the foul smell of dried blood on the forest floor when Skar smelled Omar’s scent and headed his way.
“This is really serious isn’t it?” Kat looked in her direction.
“Kat I want you to be as you were in all fights, like a cat on your toes baby girl.” She replied as Kat shook her head in agreement.
“We are close by I can feel your presence.” Skar let Omar know before they freaked at their sight.
“Be careful Skar.” Omar replied. He tried to hide the love left behind after the words, he loved her more than she could imagine, which led to him to be her protector.
“Will do.” Skar ran into what she would never again forget. Kat had been only a few feet ahead of her and she saw her fall to the ground and roll into a hole hidden by leaves and branches. She heard Kat yell a horrendous growl of pain.
“Kat!” Skar growled as she looked down at the image of Kat trapped by spears around her only way out.
“Shift back and climb up.” Skarlet commanded.
“But shifting will weaken me” Kat shook her head.
“Shift or you will die Kat” Skar said. “I command you to shift Kat” Skar said in authority. She would never forgive herself if something happened to her.
“I need you now, Kat is injured.” She said to Omar.
“Got it.” Omar said turning his pack around.
He jumped with his speed into the air never feeling as free. He had not left home before and only wished to forget her face, the face that he would never hold in his hands again. He heard the branch break the trap set and headed to his new pray that he caught.
For love you will now kill. He fell from the trees down to the floor and run to find which trap had been triggered. As he entered the clearing he saw the girl whom had fallen for his tricks. Her face was pale with blood smeared, she had been dead by the spears and the fall it had been no use to take her out.
“What a waste of precious blood, but she didn’t look much like her anyway.” He spoke into the air.
He continued his run through the forest and came upon a unique smell, fresh blood, shifter’s blood.
“A meal meant for a king.” He said laughing horrendously. He ran towards the scent coming upon another clearing. He stopped mid run at her sight; Long black hair flowing down her back pale skin. She turned defensively snarling and baring her luminous white teeth sharp as a blade. He looked at her luscious pink red swollen lips. Then he saw her precious eyes. Luminous blue, and endless sea, her eyes; but it was disappearing turning into scarlet red.
Skarlet was special and was named by her eyes. They had been her personal mood ring but a certain color when she showed her true form, scarlet red. She turned in defense of the upcoming stranger and snarled.
“Nessie…” He said the word which threw her into her past.
“It’s a family crescent I guess you can say, I’ve worn it since I was born.” She said smiling beautifully. He touched her neck tracing down to the heart. She flinched away at the mere touch.
